POSITION DESCRIPTION


 

TITLE:  Chief Professional Officer/Executive Director

REPORTS TO:  Board President and Board of Directors

SUPERVISES:  Office Manager

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Full Time

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Serves as chief executive officer of United Way of Citrus County; responsible to and reporting to the Board of Directors; accepting responsibility for the success or failure of the agency.With the Board President, enables the Board of Directors to fulfill its governance function and facilitate the optimum interaction between management and the Board of Directors.Directs and formulates the plan for achieving United Way of Citrus County's philosophy,mission, strategy. annual goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

Works with the Board President, develops meeting agendas to ensure the opportunity for the Board to fulfill all responsibilities effectively. Develops an annual calendar to include all critical issues in a timely manner.
 

  • Conducts and leads an annual fund raising campaign that generates a maximum degree of financial support as well as developing non-campaign financial resources to increase the total pool of funds.
  • Keeps the Board and Board President fully informed on the condition of United Way of Citrus County and all important factors.
  • Involves each board member at an optimum level. Stimulates each to reach the highest   potential as a board members.
  • Works with the Board President to ensure effective and efficient board committee structure.
  • With the Board President, recommends the composition and commission of board committees.
  • Participates in board committees.
  • This position requires strong verbal, written and oral communication skills.  Requires skill in multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and performing under pressure. 
  • With the Board President, selects, cultivates and recruits volunteers who are opinioned leaders, representing all constituencies in the community, to serve on the Board of Directors and to lead the Annual Campaign.

     

RESPONSIBILITIES TO PERSONNEL AND PROGRAMS:
 

  • Assumes responsibility for United Way of Citrus County's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.
  • Ensures United Way of Citrus County's philosophy and mission are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
  • Ensures that a long-range strategy is adopted, that it achieves its mission in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Oversees the flow of funds to ensure steady progress toward goals, achievement of the mission and that proper allocation reflects present and future potential.
  • Hires and administers an effective management team with provision for succession.
  • Implements appropriate personnel training and development that ensures qualified human resources necessary for the achievement of United Way of Citrus County's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Institutes recommended UWA programs with approval of the Board of Directors and consistent with staffing and budget limitations.
  • Seeks local community partners for sponsorship of programs, when applicable.
  • Maintains a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates top quality people-both professional and volunteer.
  • Formulates and administers all major policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the chief spokesperson, along with Board President, for United Way of Citrus County and ensure proper representation to its various constituencies.
  • Attends state CPO meetings and develops a professional network among fellow CPOs.
  • Attends UWA meetings/conferences as budget permits and participates in UWA webinars to stay professionally current.
  • Administers 2-1-1 service contract for Citrus County Board of Commissioners.
  • Writes newspaper articles, speaks to community groups, appears on local TV and promotes PSA's for radio and TV regarding campaign and United Way programs.


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in business, management, finance, accounting,social services or related fields, but a Master's Degree in these disciplines, or commensurate experience above the BA or BS level, is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years managerial experience, preferably with a non-profit
health/human service agency or business. Experience as a health/human service chief
professional officer (CPO) or as a United Way Executive is a plus.  Prior experience with resource development, grant writing and community problem-solving desirable.

SKILLS:
 

  • Ability to prepare and administer a non-profit budget.
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work successfully with a non-profit governing board.
  • Ability to coordinate the annual fund raising campaign.
  • Knowledge of community planning operations.
  • Ability to communicate with both community, professional and business leaders and with those in need.

BENEFITS:
Health insurance, retirement, professional education/conferences, vacation, sick leave, mileage expense reimbursement and generous holiday schedules.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is in an office environment with A/C and heating. Primarily sedentary but some occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds required. Reimbursement of expenses authorized by policy and approved by Board President to include mileage on personally owned and insured vehicle. Frequent driving is required for meetings, speaking engagements, etc. Work hours are per UWCC policy to include some after-hour meetings and/or fundraising functions. Non-smoking and drug/alcohol-free environment is required at the office, meetings and fundraising activities.

SALARY RANGE:

$39,000.00 to $54,000.00 based on experience. Salary increases are subject to an annual evaluation and comparability data from other United Ways and/or non-profits. Every two years, the Board of Directors will review the objectives, core expectations and salary range for edification and/or increase.
